This is the BEST dessert I have ever tasted. My Mom generously passed down this recipe to me. Great crowd pleaser!!! Very rich in flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup flaked coconut
  • 2 1/2 cup(s) sliced Granny Smith apples *
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs

Notes

* approx. 3 apples

Method

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cut butter into cake mix until crumbly. Mix in coconut. Pat mixture lightly into ungreased oblong pan, building up slight edges. Bake 10 minutes. Arrange apple slices (pare apple and cut into 1/2 in. slices) on warm crust. Mix sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle on apples. Blend sour cream and egg yolks (yolks only; discard whites); drizzle over apples. (Topping will not completely cover apples.) Bake 25 minutes or until edges are light brown. (Do not over bake.) Serve warm or cool.

Our guests have raved about this dessert at our Bed and Breakfast. I like it with or without the coconut. It comes out perfect every time!

I love this dessert. Very rich, great flavors, and a huge hit with friends/coworkers. This is my favorite Kuchen recipe I have ever tried. I like it best when the apples are sliced pretty thin...

This was not a hit in the house. Took almost an hour to cook all the way and it was mushy and not the way it is pictured when you google the name of this desert. This will not be made in my house again. :(

Yum times infinity! Very rich - be sure to serve smaller portions.

Delicious, but a little too sweet. I will definitely make this again using a little less sugar.

I love the recipe, but I have not idea how to get this yellow cake mix here in Denmark. Any tips anyone? Looove desserts with fruits.

I was unsure about some of the ingredients of this dish (sour cream and egg yolks) but wow! I just finished making this recipe and the house smells amazing. I really enjoyed the dessert and my sister even ate it, one who hates having fruit in a dessert. I will definitely make this again. The coconut adds and unexpected twist which I loved.
